Get exported data

The normal way to retrieve data from SMART Mobile over USB is to import the data using the Field data -> SMART Mobile -> Import… menu option on SMART Desktop.

This recently stopped working due to mobile security changes. It will be addressed in an upcoming SMART Desktop patch in early 2026.

In the meantime, follow these steps to retrieve exported data:

  1. Update to SMART Mobile version 1.0.585 or later. It is available on the Google Play Store or you can get the APK from here.
  2. Connect the USB cable and select File Transfer mode on the device
  3. Open Windows Explorer, select your device and navigate to the Download folder and then the SMARTdata folder
  4. Copy the JSON files there to any desktop folder (or create a new one)
  5. Use the Field data -> SMART Mobile -> Import… menu option and set Import From to Files
  6. Use the Add button to select the files you copied and then click Open
  7. Once you have confirmed the data was imported, delete the JSON files from your desktop and the device

Note:

  1. Users of Connect and Collect are not affected. This is only needed if you use a USB cable to retrieve data.
  2. The data can also be sent directly from the device from the Project Settings page, under the Exported data option. Select the data and then Share.
  3. The data is also available off the Main Settings page, under Data archive and Manage backups.
